MATTERLEY BASIN (Regno Unito) 2 ottobre 2024 – È finalmente arrivato! Il Monster Energy FIM Motocross of Nations 2024 si sta preparando per partire nell’epico circuito di Matterley Basin nel sud della Gran Bretagna, pronto a ospitare l’evento per la terza volta nella sua breve storia!

La valle ondulata dell’Hampshire è la cornice perfetta per questo evento imponente, con una brillante visibilità della pista, drammatici cambiamenti di altitudine e grandi aree per gli spettatori che creano sempre un’atmosfera incredibile per questo evento monumentale! Entrambi gli MXoN di questo circuito hanno generato team vincenti nel mezzo di una serie di vittorie, ma sono stati anche più famosi per i loro vincitori individuali nei ricordi dei fan!

MOTOCROSS of NATIONS 2024 – Teams & Riders – OFFICIAL

L’evento del 2006 è stato il secondo di una serie di sette anni di vittorie a squadre per il Team USA, ma la leggenda che è Stefan Everts stava correndo a livello internazionale per l’ultima volta e ha ottenuto una famosa doppia vittoria in gara sul venerato americano James Stewart. Ciò ha portato il Team Belgio al 2° posto assoluto con il Team Nuova Zelanda al terzo.

Nel 2017, il Team Francia ha ottenuto la sua quarta vittoria su cinque, ma il promettente britannico Max Anstie, acclamato a gran voce, ha sconfitto un Jeffrey Herlings in forma smagliante in entrambe le sue gare, contribuendo a portare il Team Gran Bretagna sul podio in patria, dietro al trio del Team Olanda di Herlings e al solido lavoro di squadra dei vincitori della Francia.

Da allora, le ultime quattro edizioni del Monster Energy FIM Motocross of Nations sono state tutte vinte dalle nazioni ospitanti! Il Team Netherlands ha ottenuto una prima storica vittoria in assoluto nell’evento, ad Assen nel 2019, poi nel 2021, il Team Italy ha regalato alla leggenda di Antonio Cairoli la sua unica medaglia d’oro MXoN in carriera sulla sabbia di casa a Mantova. Poi il Team USA ha posto fine a una siccità di 11 anni nella competizione in modo impressionante, vincendo nella loro roccaforte di RedBud con un enorme supporto di casa!

Infine, la scorsa stagione, il Team France ha trionfato di fronte a un enorme pubblico di casa nell’incredibile sede di Ernee, aiutato da un 1-2 finale nella seconda gara per Maxime Renaux e Tom Vialle. Sarebbe probabilmente lo shock del secolo vedere il Team GB continuare questa tendenza con tre piloti che non gareggiano regolarmente ai GP, ma come sempre con le Nazioni, e con il Motocross in generale, tutto può succedere!

Il Team France si presenta come campione in carica e, di fatto, ha vinto sei degli ultimi nove titoli Monster Energy Motocross of Nations! Con esattamente la stessa formazione dell’evento dell’anno scorso, Romain Febvre , Tom Vialle e Maxime Renaux indosseranno i numeri 1, 2 e 3 e, nonostante un anno interrotto da un infortunio per i due piloti della 450, Vialle ha avuto una stagione forte negli Stati Uniti e potrebbe essere il collante che tiene insieme questa combinazione vincente . Sono l’unica squadra con tre campioni del mondo nella loro formazione, anche se, come per tutte le prime quattro nazioni dell’anno scorso, nessuno di loro ha ottenuto una vittoria in GP questa stagione.

Il Team Australia presenta due delle più grandi star del Motocross, i fratelli Jett Lawrence e Hunter Lawrence , entrambi su moto Honda 450 ufficiali, affiancati dal miglior pilota del campionato australiano Kyle Webster, e potrebbero essere i favoriti per l’evento dopo essere arrivati secondi l’anno scorso. Sarebbe il loro primo successo in assoluto all’MXoN e, in un paese che parla la loro lingua, potrebbero avere l’area di trasporto più trafficata del paddock!

Il Team Italia è stato un sorprendente podio a Ernee l’anno scorso e, correndo con i numeri 7, 8 e 9, torna con lo stesso trio che li ha portati lì nel ’23. Alberto Forato è in buona forma dal suo ritorno dall’infortunio, Andrea Adamo è anche salito sul podio nell’ultimo Gran Premio MX2 e ha un punto da dimostrare dopo una stagione altrimenti deludente come campione del mondo MX2 in carica. Andrea Bonacorsi ha avuto un promettente primo anno nelle gare di Gran Premio, passando dalla MX2 alla MXGP all’inizio della stagione e finendo decimo nella serie. Una scommessa esterna per arrivarci di nuovo, ma tutti e tre sono forti e costanti.

Questo weekend, il Team USA è il campione in carica e storicamente la nazione migliore della competizione con 23 titoli. La loro formazione sarà composta da Aaron Plessinger , RJ Hampshire e Christian Craig, e vorranno vincere il primo Chamberlain Trophy del Team USA in Europa dal 2011.

Team Germany , riporta Ken Roczen ancora una volta all’MXoN dopo aver ottenuto la vittoria assoluta nella classe MXGP l’anno scorso, e insieme a Simon Laengenfelder ha anche un buon pilota MX2 con lui. Incredibilmente, Simon non era nato quando il loro pilota della classe Open, Max Nagl, ha gareggiato per la prima volta al Nations, ma il trentasettenne ha dominato il campionato internazionale tedesco nel suo paese d’origine, e riunitosi a Roczen come due terzi del loro team vincente del 2012, potrebbero benissimo salire sul podio.

Il Team Belgio ha avuto una fine di stagione torrida a causa degli infortuni, e a un certo punto la loro partecipazione sembrava essere in dubbio, ma Jago Geerts , Lucas Coenen e Brent van Doninck si schiereranno a Matterley. Entrambi i piloti 450 hanno avuto stagioni segnate dagli infortuni, ma Coenen cercherà di mettere in ombra qualche 450 con la sua velocità bruciante che gli ha permesso di vincere gli ultimi tre Gran Premi MX2 dell’anno!

Il Team Svizzera torna con una delle formazioni più esperte, composta da Jeremy Seewer, Arnaud Tonus e Valentin Guillod, mentre il Team Spagna vede il due volte campione del mondo Jorge Prado guidare la propria corsa per il podio, con gli stessi compagni di squadra dell’anno scorso, ovvero Oriol Oliver e Ruben Fernandez.

Ottavo l’anno scorso, il Team USA punta ad avere una squadra più forte nel 2024, nonostante l’infortunio del loro nuovo campione nazionale 450 Chase Sexton. La leggenda di Eli Tomac farà la sua prima apparizione all’aperto nel Regno Unito e la sua aggiunta è una prospettiva da acquolina in bocca, soprattutto insieme al suo compagno di squadra esperto Cooper Webb e all’unico rientrato dall’evento dell’anno scorso, Aaron Plessinger. Sono sicuramente dei contendenti per il podio, forse anche per la vittoria!

Il Team Slovenia e il Team Gran Bretagna sono stati gli altri primi dieci team della scorsa stagione, e il cinque volte campione del mondo Tim Gajser sarà desideroso di dimostrare il suo punto dopo aver perso di misura la corona mondiale MXGP una settimana fa. Anche Jan Pancar è una stella nascente in grado di entrare tra i migliori! Il team di casa riporta il veterano Tommy Searle nella classe MXGP, con il vincitore del Matterley 2017 Max Anstie che arriva dagli Stati Uniti per far ruggire ancora una volta il pubblico di casa! L’enigma che è il quattro volte campione britannico Conrad Mewse, che ha sconfitto Jeffrey Herlings nel Regno Unito quest’anno, cerca di portare il suo ritmo nazionale alle Nazioni per i suoi tifosi di casa!

Dopo un evento disastroso nel 2023, quest’anno il Team Netherlands indossa i numeri 52, 53 e 54, ma Jeffrey Herlings è stato fenomenale a tratti in questa stagione e darà il massimo per una seconda vittoria per Nazioni per il suo paese, soprattutto insieme al nuovo campione del mondo MX2 Kay de Wolf e al pluripremiato vincitore delle Nazioni Glenn Coldenhoff. Sicuramente contendenti per le prime posizioni!

MATTERLEY BASIN GEARS UP FOR THE 2024 MONSTER ENERGY FIM MOTOCROSS OF NATIONS IN THE UK

MATTERLEY BASIN (United Kingdom) 2 October 2024 – It’s here at last! The 2024 Monster Energy FIM Motocross of Nations is getting ready to go at the epic Matterley Basin circuit in the south of Great Britain, set to host the event for the third time in its short history!

The rolling Hampshire valley is a perfect setting for this massive event, with brilliant track visibility, dramatic elevation changes, and huge spectator areas which always create an incredible atmosphere for this monumental event!  Both of the MXoNs at this circuit have generated winning teams in the middle of a streak of victories, but also been more famous for their individual winners in the memories of fans!

The 2006 event was the second of a seven-year run of team victories for Team USA, but the legend that is Stefan Everts was racing internationally for the last time and took a famous double race win over the revered American James Stewart. That put Team Belgium 2nd overall with Team New Zealand in third.

In 2017, Team France took its fourth win in a run of five, but loudly-cheered local British hotshot Max Anstie defeated an in-form Jeffrey Herlings in both of his races to help put Team Great Britain on the podium at home, behind Herlings’ Team Netherlands trio and a solid team effort from winners France.

Since then, the last four editions of the Monster Energy FIM Motocross of Nations have all been won by the host nations! Team Netherlands achieving a historical first win ever in the event, at Assen in 2019, then in 2021, Team Italy gave the legend of Antonio Cairoli his only career MXoN Gold Medal on home sand at Mantova. Then Team USA ended an 11-year drought in the competition in impressive fashion, winning at their RedBud stronghold with massive home support!

Finally, last season, Team France triumphed in front of a massive home crowd at the incredible Ernee venue, aided by a 1-2 finish in the second race for Maxime Renaux and Tom Vialle.  It would probably be the shock of the century to see Team GB continue this trend with three riders who do not compete at GPs regularly, but as always with the Nations, and with Motocross in general, anything could happen!

Team France come in as defending Champions, and in fact they have won six of the last nine Monster Energy Motocross of Nations titles! With exactly the same line-up as last year’s event, Romain Febvre, Tom Vialle, and Maxime Renaux will be wearing numbers 1, 2, and 3, and despite an injury-interrupted year for the two 450 riders, Vialle has had a strong season in the USA and could be the glue that keep this winning combination together. They are the only team with three World Champions in their line-up, although as with all of last year’s top four Nations, none of them have scored a GP win this season.

Team Australia feature two of the biggest stars in Motocross racing with brothers Jett Lawrence and Hunter Lawrence both on factory 450 Honda machinery, joined by top Australian Championship rider Kyle Webster, and could well be the favourites for the event after finishing second last year.  It would be their first ever success at the MXoN, and in a country that speaks their language they could well have the busiest transporter area in the paddock!

Team Italy were surprise podium finishers at Ernee last year, and racing with numbers 7, 8, and 9 they return with the same trio that got them there in ’23.  Alberto Forato has been in good form since his return from injury, Andrea Adamo also finished on the podium in the final MX2 Grand Prix and has a point to prove after an otherwise disappointing season as defending MX2 World Champion. Andrea Bonacorsi had a promising first year in Grand Prix racing, switching from MX2 to MXGP early in the season and finishing tenth in the series.  An outside bet of getting there again, but all three are strong and consistent.

This weekend, Team USA is the defending Champion and historically the best nation of the competition with 23 Titles. Their line-up will be Aaron Plessinger, R.J Hampshire and Christian Craig, and will want to win the first Chamberlain Trophy by Team USA in Europe since 2011.

Team Germany, bring Ken Roczen back once more to the MXoN after he took overall victory in the MXGP class last year, and joined by Simon Laengenfelder he has a good MX2 rider with him as well. Amazingly, Simon wasn’t born when their Open class rider, Max Nagl, first competed at the Nations, but the 37-year-old has dominated the German International Championship in his home country, and re-united with Roczen as two-thirds of their winning 2012 team, they could well rise to the podium.

Team Belgium have had a torrid end to the season with injuries, and at one point their participation looked to be in doubt, but Jago Geerts, Lucas Coenen, and Brent van Doninck will line up at Matterley. Both 450 riders have had injury-affected seasons, but Coenen will be looking to put a few 450s to shame with his blistering speed that saw him win the last three MX2 Grands Prix of the year!

Team Switzerland return with one of the most experienced line-ups with Jeremy Seewer, Arnaud Tonus, and Valentin Guillod, while Team Spain sees now double World Champion Jorge Prado spearhead their campaign for the podium, with the same teammates as last year I the shape of Oriol Oliver and Ruben Fernandez.

Eighth last year, Team USA look to have a stronger squad in 2024, despite the injury to their new 450 National Champion Chase Sexton. The legend of Eli Tomac will make his first appearance in the UK outdoors, and his addition is a mouth-watering prospect, especially alongside his experience teammate Cooper Webb, and the only returnee from last year’s event, Aaron Plessinger.  They are definitely contenders for the podium, maybe even the win!

Team Slovenia and Team Great Britain were the other top ten teams last season, and five-time World Champion Tim Gajser will be keen to prove a point after narrowly losing the MXGP world crown a week ago. Jan Pancar is a rising star capable of getting amongst the top guys as well! The home team bring veteran Tommy Searle back to the MXGP class, with 2017 Matterley winner Max Anstie coming across from the USA to get the home crowd roaring once more! The enigma that is four-time British Champion Conrad Mewse, who has defeated Jeffrey Herlings in the UK this year, looks to bring his domestic pace to the Nations for his home fans!

After a disastrous event in 2023, Team Netherlands wear numbers 52, 53, and 54 this year, but Jeffrey Herlings has been phenomenal at times this season and will be going all-out for a second Nations win for his country, especially alongside new MX2 World Champion Kay de Wolf and many-time Nations winner Glenn Coldenhoff. Definitely contenders for the top positions!
