ALTRI TROFEI DEL GRAN PREMIO MENTRE LA RED BULL KTM SPINGE SOTTO LA PIOGGIA IN FRANCIA
Più acqua, fango e circostanze impegnative nella MXGP 2024, ma la Red Bull KTM Factory Racing è emersa dal Gran Premio di Francia con apparizioni sul podio in entrambe le classi MXGP e MX2 grazie a Jeffrey Herlings e Andrea Adamo che si sono entrambi classificati terzi a St Jean D’Angely.
La MXGP ha nuovamente affrontato la sfida con condizioni meteorologiche mutevoli sul popolare circuito di St Jean D’Angely, nella Francia occidentale, per il settimo round della stagione e il terzo fine settimana di azione. La sede è uno dei principali siti per i Gran Premi del paese e ha ospitato due volte il prestigioso Motocross delle Nazioni in questo secolo. Il percorso scivoloso e sassoso ha accolto un pubblico numeroso e chiassoso, ma l’instabilità del clima – riassunta dal sole e poi dai temporali durante le prove e le qualifiche di sabato – ha inzuppato la pista e l’ha resa fangosa, piena di solchi e difficile da giudicare.
Liam Everts ha usato il suo feeling sensibile con il terreno per conquistare il 2° posto nelle qualifiche RAM MX2 con il compagno di squadra Andrea Adamo al 5° e Sacha Coenen verso il retro del cancello dopo che un paio di errori sul terreno difficile hanno contato contro di lui. Everts è stato successivamente giudicato aver saltato mentre sventolavano le bandiere gialle ed è stato portato al 4 ° posto. Sabato Jeffrey Herlings è arrivato decimo nella classifica MXGP.
Domenica partenze decenti sarebbero state la chiave per la contesa del podio, in particolare per le fradicie seconde manche per entrambe le classi mentre il cielo esplodeva. Herlings ha lavorato per guadagnare il 6° posto nella prima gara partendo dall’8° posto. Dopo la seconda partenza è arrivato secondo nel primo giro e poi ha dovuto mantenere la concentrazione sotto la pressione di Tim Gajser. La pista era quasi allagata, ma Jeffrey ha trovato un solco più veloce e si è allontanato per raggiungere Romain Febvre, prendendo il comando con una mossa coraggiosa all’esterno lungo una delle colline di St Jean. Ha tagliato il traguardo al primo posto per la sua seconda bandiera a scacchi della stagione. Herlings ha preso parte alla cerimonia del podio come secondo classificato, ma con Gajser che ha guadagnato posizioni a causa delle penalità del pilota è stato successivamente abbassato al 3° posto.
Nella MX2 il campione del mondo in carica Andrea Adamo ha dimostrato una forma di alto livello con due risultati nei primi quattro posti. L’italiano è stato preciso e fiducioso nel salire al 2° posto nella prima manche e poi ha mantenuto la calma quando ha cominciato a piovere per assicurarsi il 4° posto nella seconda manche. Tanto è bastato per salire sul terzo gradino del podio. Liam Everts è stato altrettanto costante ma con un ritmo leggermente più lento e si è assicurato un 6-5 per il 5° posto. L’eccellenza di Sacha Coenen dal cancelletto di partenza ha portato a ulteriori bottini. Ha lottato con il suo gemello, Lucas, per il comando nella seconda manche, ma diversi piccoli errori gli hanno fatto finire 15° e 9°, perdendo per un soffio la top ten.
La MXGP viaggerà verso est e a Talkessel a Teutschenthal per il GP di Germania tra due settimane. Seguiranno a breve i viaggi a Kegums (Lettonia) e Maggiora (Italia).
Jeffrey Herlings, 6° e 1° per il 3° assoluto nella MXGP: “Abbiamo finito 6-1 per il 3° e avrebbe potuto andare meglio, avrebbe potuto andare peggio. Il cambiamento dei risultati dopo la gara mi ha fatto perdere qualche punto rispetto agli altri, ma sono abbastanza soddisfatto della mia seconda manche. La moto ha funzionato bene e ha corso pulito in tutte le manche in quelle condizioni, quindi la squadra ha fatto un ottimo lavoro. Non vedo l’ora di arrivare a Teutschenthal dopo una gara di prove nel Regno Unito la prossima settimana. Questo fine settimana è difficile e dobbiamo pensare alla salute dei piloti e pensare in modo professionale. È la mia opinione.”
Andrea Adamo, 2° e 4° per il 3° assoluto nella MX2: “Un fine settimana piuttosto solido e abbiamo fatto un passo avanti rispetto all’inizio della stagione perché riesco ad essere decente in ogni manche. È stato un fine settimana strano perché abbiamo avuto buone condizioni in cui il tempo era quasi asciutto, e poi dei temporali che lo hanno reso molto fangoso. Una strana sensazione… ma la seconda manche è stata abbastanza buona. Devo essere felice… e devo rimanere costante mentre cerco di fare un altro passo avanti nelle prossime gare”.
Liam Everts, 6° e 5° per il 5° assoluto nella MX2: “Weekend difficile e un po’ su e giù. Non darò la mia opinione su quanto accaduto sabato. Gara1, ero un po’ dietro Sacha e sono caduto con Kay [De Wolf]: un incidente di gara. Possono succedere. Qualcosa è andato storto per me all’inizio del secondo e nei primi quindici minuti ho faticato a superare i ragazzi più lenti ma una volta che ho avuto aria libera avevo un buon ritmo… ovviamente era troppo tardi. Tornerò meglio in Germania”.
Sacha Coenen, 15° e 9° per l’11° assoluto nella MX2: “Ho fatto davvero una buona partenza dal 35° cancello! Non mi sentivo molto a mio agio in pista e ho rallentato un po’ la velocità, ma poi sono caduto e dopo ho faticato a vedere i solchi e sono caduto di nuovo. Non sapevo davvero la mia posizione ma ho finito la manche. Nella seconda gara ho avuto l’holeshot. Ho avuto il ritmo giusto nei primi giri e sono rimasto 2° per molto tempo. Ho fatto ancora alcuni errori e ho perso l’anteriore dopo un salto e poi ho colpito la recinzione in discesa. Non è così bello avere altri due stupidi incidenti. Sono in buona salute e ora non vediamo l’ora che arrivi la Germania”.

MORE GRAND PRIX TROPHIES AS RED BULL KTM PUSH THROUGH THE RAIN IN FRANCE
More water, mud and challenging circumstances in 2024 MXGP but Red Bull KTM Factory Racing emerged from the Grand Prix of France with podium appearances in both MXGP and MX2 classes thanks to Jeffrey Herlings and Andrea Adamo both classifying 3rd at St Jean D’Angely.
- MXGP silverware for the second week in succession for Jeffrey Herlings as the Dutchman goes 6-1 in France to classify 2nd but is then bumped to 3rd overall due to rider penalizations affecting the second moto standings
- Andrea Adamo takes his third MX2 podium finish of the season and his second in a row to rise to 5th in the world championship standings
- Liam Everts keeps consistent with a top five overall result and maintains a solid point haul to guard his 2024 title options
- 11th place and more holeshot glory for Sacha Coenen while Gyan Doensen takes 4th for the fifth round of the 2024 EMX125 European Championship with the KTM 125 SX. Cas Valk was 3rd in the fourth outing of the year for EMX250
- After trips to Portugal, Spain and France in consecutive weekends, MXGP now breaks before heading into another triple header in Germany, Latvia and Italy starting the first weekend of June
