La vittoria a Maggiora vede Gajser prendere il controllo del campionato MXGP

Doppietta di giornata, Tim Gajser del Team HRC ha conquistato la sua seconda vittoria assoluta della stagione, in perfette condizioni sul prestigioso circuito di Maggiora in Italia. Dopo la vittoria in qualifica di ieri su una pista colpita dalla pioggia, l’equipaggio della pista ha fatto un lavoro straordinario per preparare il circuito per le due manche di oggi, dove Gajser ha anche mostrato la sua abilità su una pista asciutta e piena di buchi per conquistare il GP assoluto.
Un forte temporale ha colpito il circuito intorno alle 19:00 di sabato sera, mettendo a rischio il programma della domenica, ma quando i piloti sono scesi in pista per il giro di osservazione prima della prima manche, tutto era in perfetto ordine. Partendo come di consueto tra i primi cinque, lo sloveno ha effettuato alcuni sorpassi veloci per portarsi al secondo posto, prima di inseguire il leader per il resto del primo giro. Mentre si avvicinavano al traguardo, è passato al primo posto e non si è voltato indietro. Aveva una certa pressione da dietro, ma non si è lasciato scoraggiare e invece ha ottenuto un’impressionante vittoria in gara che gli ha permesso di avanzare di altri tre punti nella corsa al titolo.
Sapendo che le partenze erano critiche su questa pista di Maggiora, il pilota della Honda CRF450R ha preso l’holeshot della seconda manche ed ha evitato tutto il caos dietro di lui. Con il secondo posto alle spalle, la coppia si è staccata dal resto del gruppo e ha avuto il suo duello privato da salvare per i tifosi. Sfortunatamente, proprio quando sembrava che Gajser avesse resistito alla tempesta, ha commesso un piccolo errore in una curva inclinata ed è dovuto rimontare in seconda posizione. Sapendo che sarebbe stato comunque abbastanza buono per il primo posto assoluto, e sapendo che aveva quasi 40 secondi di margine per arrivare al terzo posto, è tornato a casa per scatenare scene di giubilo tra tutto il Team HRC presente.
Questa doppietta, combinata con la vittoria nelle qualifiche di ieri, significa che ora raggiunge il giro di boa della serie, con un imponente vantaggio di 34 punti sul secondo posto e di 71 punti sul terzo. È stato un ottimo periodo di forma per il #243 e ora si dirige in Indonesia per la doppia gara di Lombok pieno di fiducia e cercando di aumentare ulteriormente quel divario, in un paese che gli piace visitare, anche se l’attuale circuito di Lombok sarà una nuova esperienza per il cinque volte campione del mondo.

Dopo un sabato così positivo, domenica le cose non sono andate proprio secondo i piani per Ferruccio Zanchi. Ha fatto una buona partenza in gara uno, è arrivato fino al sesto posto e stava spingendo per il quinto, ma poi un piccolo incidente lo ha fatto scendere al 16° posto. Da lì, ha dato il massimo per arrivare all’11° posto quando ha ricevuto la bandiera a scacchi, ma dopo il terzo posto di ieri, voleva davvero di più. Sfortunatamente, in gara due, non è riuscito a sfruttare la sua buona scelta al cancello ed era nelle retrovie quando hanno girato la prima curva, ma ancora una volta, mostrando ottimi sorpassi, si è rapidamente fatto strada nella top 10. Nonostante abbia spinto forte, non è riuscito a progredire oltre il nono posto, che era abbastanza buono per il decimo posto assoluto. È stato comunque un risultato eccellente per il giovane e imparerà da tutto durante il fine settimana e ne metterà a frutto quando la serie si dirigerà in Indonesia per il doppio incontro a Lombok.

È fantastico vincere un altro GP e disputare tre belle gare. Sono un po’ deluso per quel piccolo ribaltamento altrimenti sarei andato in testa e sarebbe stato davvero fantastico, ma comunque non posso lamentarmi di come è andato questo fine settimana. Tutti nel Team HRC lavorano duramente e lo fanno in giorni come questo, quindi un grande ringraziamento a tutti e ora abbiamo un fine settimana libero prima di andare in Indonesia, che penso siano un paio di round importanti per la serie. Non vedo l’ora di vederli perché saranno anche su una pista nuova per me, e questo è sempre bello.

Sento che, dopo la mia prestazione di sabato, avrei potuto fare meglio del 10° posto assoluto, tuttavia su una pista così difficile da superare, quei due errori che ho commesso mi sono davvero costati. In gara uno ero al sesto posto e poi una piccola caduta mi ha fatto scendere al 16° posto, poi in gara due ho fatto una pessima partenza e ho dovuto lottare per arrivare 10°. Tuttavia, mi è davvero piaciuta l’esperienza davanti ai miei tifosi di casa e non vedo l’ora di rifarla. Non vedo l’ora di iniziare il mio primo viaggio in Indonesia, dove spero di continuare a lottare vicino ai primi posti.

Tim ha guidato molto bene durante il fine settimana, vincendo ieri dominando il fango e poi vincendo oggi in buone condizioni con una doppietta. Ha davvero dimostrato di essere capace, qualunque sia il tempo e in un mondiale che è molto importante. E poi andremo in Indonesia, che probabilmente farà molto caldo, quindi è qualcosa con cui dovrà affrontare, ma conoscendo Tim, sarà all’altezza della situazione.
Ferro ha vissuto dei momenti davvero belli durante il fine settimana e speriamo che si concentri su queste cose, piuttosto che sui piccoli errori. E decisamente sta procedendo nella giusta direzione e siamo entusiasti che corra in Indonesia.

Victory in Maggiora sees Gajser takes control of the MXGP championship

Going one-two on the day, Team HRC’s Tim Gajser took his second overall of the season, in perfect conditions at the prestigious Maggiora circuit in Italy. After a rain-hit track victory in qualification yesterday, the track crew did a tremendous job to get the circuit ready for the two motos today, where Gajser also showed his prowess on a dry, rutted track to take the GP overall.
A huge rainstorm hit the circuit at around 7pm on Saturday evening, which threatened the Sunday timetable, but by the time the riders hit the circuit for their sighting lap before moto one, everything was in fine working order. Getting his customary start inside the top five, the Slovenian made a few quick passes to get his way into second, before he stalked the leader for the rest of the first lap. As they approached the finish line, he made his move into first place and didn’t look back. He had some pressure from behind, but he didn’t let it phase him and instead took an impressive race win to move a further three points ahead in the title race.
Knowing that starts were critical on this Maggiora track, the Honda CRF450R rider took the second moto holeshot and avoided all the chaos behind him. With second-place close behind, the pair pulled away from the rest of the field and had their own private duel for the fans to saviour. Unfortunately, just as it looked like Gajser had weathered the storm, he made a small mistake in a banked corner and had to remount in second place. Knowing that it would still be good enough for first overall, and knowing he had almost a 40 second buffer to third place, he cruised home to spark scenes of jubilation amongst all of Team HRC in attendance.
These one-two results, combined with the win in qualification yesterday means that he now reaches the halfway point of the series, an imposing 34-points up on second place and 71-points up on third place. It has been a great run of form for the #243 and he now heads to Indonesia for the Lombok double-header full of confidence and looking to increase that gap even further, in a country that he enjoys visiting, even if the actual Lombok circuit will be a new experience for the five-time world champion.

After such a successful Saturday, things didn’t quite go to plan on Sunday for Ferruccio Zanchi. He got a good start in race one, and got as high as sixth place and was pushing for fifth, but then a small crash dropped him down to 16th. From there, he put on his customary charge to make it up to 11th as he received the chequered flag but after the third place yesterday, he really wanted more. Unfortunately, in race two, he was unable to capitalise on his good gate-pick and was near the back as they rounded the first corner, but again, showing excellent passing he quickly made his way inside the top 10. Despite pushing hard, he was unable to progress any further than ninth, which was good enough for 10th overall. It was still an excellent result for the youngster and he’ll learn from everything over the weekend and put it to good use when the series heads to Indonesia for the double-header on Lombok.

It is great to win another GP and put in three good races. I’m a little bit disappointed to have that small tip-over otherwise I’d have gone one-one-one and that would have really been great, but still, I can’t complain about how this weekend went. Everyone in the whole of Team HRC works so hard and they do it for days like this so a big thanks to everyone and now we have a weekend off before going to Indonesia which I think is an important couple of rounds for the series. I am looking forward to them because they will also be at a new track for me, and that is always nice.

I feel that after my performance on Saturday, that I could have done better than 10th overall, however on a track that was so difficult to pass on, those couple of mistakes I made really cost me. In race one, I was in sixth place and then a small crash which dropped me to 16th, and then I just got a really bad start in race two and had to fight through to get 10th. Still, I really enjoyed the experience in front of my home fans and I can’t wait to do it again. I am also really looking forward to my first trip to Indonesia where I hope to keep battling near to the front.

Tim rode so well over the weekend, winning yesterday in dominating fashion in the mud and then winning in good conditions today with one-two results. He really showed that he is capable, whatever the weather and in a world championship that is very important. And next we go to Indonesia which will probably be very hot so that is something he has to cope with, but knowing Tim, he’ll rise to the occasion.
Ferro had some really good moments over the weekend and we hope that he focuses on those things, rather than the small mistakes. He is definitely progressing in the right direction and we’re excited for him to ride in Indonesia.
