MONACO (Principato di Monaco) 12 giugno 2024 – Le gloriose colline del Parco Maggiora accolgono i Campionati del Mondo MXGP 2024 per l’ MXGP d’Italia, mentre la serie raggiunge il suo giro di boa in uno dei luoghi più iconici dell’intero calendario.
La storia dietro il potente circuito italiano nella zona nord-occidentale del paese è tale che difficilmente ha bisogno di essere raccontata, anche se ci sono stati solo 11 eventi MXGP nella sede, più cinque eventi “Nazioni” nei suoi quasi 60 eventi. -anno di storia. La prima visita fu nel 1966, per un Gran Premio della 500cc vinto dalla leggenda della Germania dell’Est Paul Friedrichs, prima che il Motocross des Nations andasse lì per la prima volta nel 1970, vinto da una squadra svedese di cinque uomini, poi due Trophees des Nations (solo per le moto da 250cc ) eventi, entrambi vinti dal Team Belgium. Il nonno di Liam Everts, Harry Everts, faceva parte di entrambe le squadre!
Naturalmente, uno degli eventi di motocross più famosi di tutti i tempi si è svolto sulle piste italiane nel 1986, quando l’incredibile formazione del Team USA composta da David Bailey, Rick Johnson e Johnny O’Mara ha lasciato il mondo intero al suo seguito. in una perfetta esibizione di guida, battuti solo uno dall’altro individualmente!
La sede è stata riaperta nel 2013 e da allora ha ospitato cinque eventi MXGP. Tim Gajser, che ha vinto nel 2015 e nel 2022, Jeffrey Herlings (2013-14 nella MX2) e Jago Geerts (2022-23 nella MX2) hanno eguagliato ciascuno il totale di due vittorie di Puzar sul circuito in quel periodo, così come l’edizione 2024 vedere incoronato il primo tre volte vincitore?
Le gare dell’anno scorso si sono svolte più avanti nel corso dell’anno e hanno visto Jorge Prado e Andrea Adamo conquistare le due corone del Campionato del mondo, mentre Jeremy Seewer e Jago Geerts hanno conquistato i trofei del vincitore del Gran Premio. Herlings ha vinto il maggior numero di gare individuali sul circuito, 5 in totale, sebbene fossero tutte nella MX2, e non ha visitato il circuito dall’MX delle Nazioni 2016, dove ha ottenuto la vittoria individuale della classe Open, nonostante la sconfitta dei Paesi Bassi. il trofeo a squadre alla Francia nell’ultimo giro dell’intero weekend!
Il Campionato mondiale di motocross femminile WMX torna a Maggiora per la prima volta dal 2013, quando la leggenda italiana Kiara Fontanesi vinse la classifica generale sulla strada per il secondo dei suoi sei titoli mondiali. Raggiunge la sua gara di casa classificandosi terza nella serie di quest’anno per il suo team MXFontaRacing GASGAS Syneco , anche se è a pari punti con Lynn Valk di Schmicker Racing, 42 punti dietro il leader della serie De Baets Yamaha , Lotte van Drunen. Daniela Guillen è seconda in classifica, a soli 8 punti dal comando della squadra nazionale spagnola GASGAS della RFME . La classe WMX potrebbe offrire delle gare davvero ravvicinate a Maggiora!
Ritorna anche la serie EMX125 Presented by FMF Racing , con l’ungherese Noel Zanocz in testa di 26 punti per il team Fantic Factory Racing EMX125 dopo la sua vittoria in Lettonia, mentre la stella del Racestore KTM Factory Rookies Gyan Doensen occupa il secondo posto. Il compagno di squadra italiano di Zanocz, Simone Mancini, sarà acclamato dai suoi tifosi locali, così come il compagno di casa Francesco Bellei del team Dreams Racing !

Per il quinto fine settimana consecutivo della MXGP, la tabella rossa cambia di mano mentre gli equipaggi si dirigono verso l’Italia nord-occidentale. Tim Gajser del Team HRC, che ha ottenuto solo la sua seconda vittoria in GP a Maggiora nel 2015, sulla strada per il titolo mondiale MX2, e un’altra in MXGP nel 2022, ha solo quattro punti di vantaggio in classifica sul campione del mondo MXGP, Jorge Prado . Lo spagnolo vinse la prima gara a Maggiora lo scorso anno, poiché un problema a Romain Febvre rese il divario di punti incolmabile, lasciando il team Red Bull GASGAS Factory Racing a festeggiare con il suo nuovo Campione del Mondo! Finora quest’anno, quando le condizioni erano asciutte e facili, il detentore della targa n. 1 è stato quasi intoccabile, ma gli errori sui circuiti colpiti dalla pioggia gli sono costati la leadership del campionato nonostante abbia vinto 6 dei 9 Gran Premi quest’anno.
Jeffrey Herlings ha ottenuto la sua prima vittoria della stagione per la Red Bull KTM Factory Racing lo scorso fine settimana in Lettonia, ed è ora a 68 punti da Gajser in classifica. Non avendo mai corso un Gran Premio a Maggiora su una 450, è difficile indovinare quale sarà il suo ritmo sulle piste italiane, ma quella presenza alle Nazioni lo ha visto prendere un punteggio di 2-1 quando una caduta gli è costata la vittoria nella sua prima uscita. Probabilmente sarà molto felice se il tempo piovoso seguirà la serie anche questo fine settimana.
Un pilota che ha avuto un grande anno finora in MXGP è il pilota della Schmicker Racing Cornelius Toendel, che si trova al 12° posto in classifica e ha una storia di vittorie a Maggiora, avendo vinto nell’EMX250 nel 2022. Mattia Guadagnini è al 14° posto in classifica ed è il più alto- finora si è piazzato italiano nella MXGP, anche se il campione EMX250 dello scorso anno Andrea Bonacorsi è attualmente 16esimo per Monster Energy Yamaha Factory MXGP, essendo passato alla moto più grande al quinto round. Se Guadagnini ripetesse le sue recenti partenze fulminee sulla macchina Nestaan Husqvarna Factory Racing , il rumore della folla sarà assordante!
Ivo Monticelli è l’unico sopravvissuto della squadra italiana MRT Racing Team Beta e cercherà ancora una volta di entrare nella top ten nel suo paese d’origine!
La classe MX2 ha visto il suo primo nuovo vincitore della stagione in Lettonia lo scorso fine settimana, con Sacha Coenen che ha ottenuto una brillante prima vittoria per la Red Bull KTM Factory Racing mentre i leader del campionato del team Nestaan Husqvarna Factory Racing , Kay de Wolf e Lucas Coenen, entrambi colpisci il mazzo più di una volta nella seconda gara! I compagni di squadra mantengono il primo e il secondo posto in classifica, con l’olandese avanti di 55 punti. Simon Laengenfelder , pilota del Red Bull GASGAS Factory Racing, è terzo solo sette punti più indietro, ed è l’unico pilota della classe ad aver vinto una gara prima a Maggiora, dopo aver vinto la prima gara la scorsa stagione.
La grande speranza per la vittoria del GP di casa è Andrea Adamo, sul circuito dove la stella della Red Bull KTM Factory Racing ha conquistato il titolo mondiale la scorsa stagione. Attualmente è quinto nella classifica a punti, dietro al compagno di squadra Liam Everts, dopo aver vinto gare in Trentino e Lugo. Dovrebbe essere forte su questo tipo di terreno duro, ma il campione in carica ha bisogno di rilanciare la sua stagione nel GP di casa in modo da poter iniziare la seconda metà della stagione con un certo slancio .
Oltre ad Adamo, Ferruccio Zanchi avrà il sostegno del pubblico di casa mentre inizierà il suo primo Gran Premio in terra italiana (ha saltato sia la Sardegna che il Trentino ad aprile) per il Team HRC. Oltre a ciò, la squadra italiana Fantic Factory Racing MX2 indosserà una livrea speciale per il Gran Premio di casa, quindi Kay Karssemakers e David Braceras sperano di trarre ispirazione dalla passione latina che si riverserà dalle colline di Maggiora questo fine settimana! Da non perdere!

MAGNIFICENT MAGGIORA WELCOMES THE MXGP OF ITALY FOR THE PERFECT ROUND TEN!
MONACO (Principality of Monaco) 12 June 2024 – The glorious hillsides of Maggiora Park welcome the 2024 MXGP World Championships for the MXGP of Italy, as the series reaches its halfway point at one of the most iconic venues in the entire calendar.
The history behind the mighty Italian circuit in the north-western area of the country is such that it hardly needs to be told, even though there have only ever been 11 MXGP events at the venue, plus five ‘Nations’ events over its near 60-year history. The first visit was in 1966, for a 500cc Grand Prix won by East German legend Paul Friedrichs, before the Motocross des Nations first went there in 1970, won by a five-man Swedish team, then two Trophees des Nations (for 250cc machines only) events, which were both won by Team Belgium. Liam Everts’ grandfather Harry Everts was on both of those teams!
Of course, one of the most famous Motocross events of all-time was held on the Italian slopes in 1986, when the incredible Team USA line-up of David Bailey, Rick Johnson, and Johnny O’Mara left the whole world in their wake in a perfect display of riding, only beaten by each other individually!
The venue was re-opened in 2013, holding five MXGP events since. Tim Gajser, who won in 2015 and 2022, Jeffrey Herlings (2013-14 in MX2), and Jago Geerts (2022-23 in MX2) have each matched Puzar’s total of two wins at the circuit in that time, so will the 2024 edition see the first three-time winner crowned?
Last year’s racing was held later in the year, and saw Jorge Prado and Andrea Adamo clinch the two World Championship crowns, while Jeremy Seewer and Jago Geerts took the Grand Prix winner’s trophies. Herlings has won the most individual races at the circuit, 5 in total, although they were all in MX2, and he hasn’t visited the circuit since the 2016 MX of Nations, where he took the individual Open class win, despite The Netherlands losing the team trophy to France on the final lap of the entire weekend!
The WMX Women’s World Motocross Championship returns to Maggiora for the first time since 2013, when Italian legend Kiara Fontanesi took the overall win on the way to the second of her six World titles. She reaches her home race lying third in this year’s series for her MXFontaRacing GASGAS Syneco team, although she is tied on points with Lynn Valk of Schmicker Racing, 42 points behind De Baets Yamaha’s series leader, Lotte van Drunen. Daniela Guillen lies second in the standings, just 8 points behind off the lead for the RFME Spain National GASGAS team. The WMX class could serve up some seriously close racing at Maggiora!
EMX125 Presented by FMF Racing series also returns, with Hungarian Noel Zanocz leading by 26 points for the Fantic Factory Racing EMX125 team after his win in Latvia, while Racestore KTM Factory Rookies star Gyan Doensen holds second place. Zanocz’s Italian teammate Simone Mancini will be cheered on by his local supporters, as will fellow home favourite Francesco Bellei of the Dreams Racing team!
For the fifth straight MXGP weekend, the red plate changes hands as the crews head to north-western Italy. Team HRC’s Tim Gajser, who took only his second ever GP win at Maggiora back in 2015, on his way to the MX2 world title, and another in MXGP in 2022, carries just a four-point lead in the standings over MXGP World Champion, Jorge Prado. The Spaniard won the first race in Maggiora last year, as a problem for Romain Febvre made the points gap insurmountable, leaving the Red Bull GASGAS Factory Racing team to celebrate with their new World Champion! So far this year, when the conditions have been dry and straightforward, the #1 plate holder has been close to untouchable, but mistakes on rain-affected circuits have cost him his Championship lead despite winning 6 of the 9 Grands Prix this year.
Jeffrey Herlings took his first win of the season for Red Bull KTM Factory Racing last weekend in Latvia, and is now 68 points behind Gajser in the standings. Having never raced a Grand Prix at Maggiora on a 450, it’s difficult to guess where his pace will be on the Italian slopes, but that Nations appearance saw him take a 2-1 scorecard when a fall cost him the win in his first outing. He will probably be quite happy if wet weather follows the series again this weekend.
One rider having a great year so far in MXGP is Schmicker Racing pilot Cornelius Toendel, who lies 12th in the standings and has winning history at Maggiora, having won in EMX250 back in 2022. Mattia Guadagnini sits 14th in the standings and is the highest-placed Italian in MXGP so far, although last year’s EMX250 Champion Andrea Bonacorsi is currently 16th for Monster Energy Yamaha Factory MXGP, having switched to the bigger bike at round five. If Guadagnini repeats his recent lightning starts on the Nestaan Husqvarna Factory Racing machine, the noise from the crowd will be deafening!
Ivo Monticelli is the sole survivor for the Italian MRT Racing Team Beta squad, and will again be looking to break the top ten in his home country!

The MX2 class witnessed its first new winner of the season in Latvia last weekend, with Sacha Coenen taking a brilliant maiden victory for Red Bull KTM Factory Racing while the Championship leaders on the Nestaan Husqvarna Factory Racing team, Kay de Wolf and Lucas Coenen, both hit the deck more than once in race two! The teammates do still hold first and second in the standings, with the Dutchman ahead by 55 points. Red Bull GASGAS Factory Racing man Simon Laengenfelder is only seven points further back in third, and is the only rider in the class to have won a race before at Maggiora, having taken the first race last season.
The big hope for a home GP win is Andrea Adamo, at the circuit where the Red Bull KTM Factory Racing star clinched the world title last season. He is currently fifth in the points table, behind his teammate Liam Everts, after taking race wins at Trentino and Lugo. He should be strong on this sort of hard pack terrain but the reigning Champion needs to kick-start his campaign at his home GP so he can start the second half of the season with some momentum.
Apart from Adamo, Ferruccio Zanchi will have the home crowd support as he starts his first Grand Prix on Italian soil (he missed both Sardegna and Trentino in April) for Team HRC. As well as that, the Italian Fantic Factory Racing MX2 squad will run a special livery for their home Grand Prix, so Kay Karssemakers and David Braceras will hope to be inspired by the Latin passion which will pour from the hillsides of Maggiora this weekend!
